It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop.
Confucius
Hey Core family,
We finally made it to the end of July. It’s been a wild ride—not just for the world, but for me. Each morning, I’ve tried my best to bring clarity, uncover hidden gems, and breathe fresh air into your inboxes—but I’d be lying if I said it hasn’t been exhausting.
First Things First
Exactly 288 editions. That’s how many issues of The Core I’ve sent so far. It also means how many mornings waking up before dawn, scanning through hundreds of sources, sifting through noise, and hunting down hidden gems to share with you. All the while, I’ve quietly navigated my own chaos, reinventing myself more times than I can count.
Thanks to your support, this personal-challenge-turned-newsletter has grown beyond anything I imagined. First came Watch Word, born from my lifelong passion for watches. And this month, we launched Flashback, our history-focused spin-off. In just a few weeks, it’s already twice as popular as The Core, with more feedback, more shares, and more love. I’m proud—but admittedly, a tiny bit jealous on behalf of my firstborn.
New Questions
Flashback’s success got me thinking: maybe we’re all tired of today’s relentless news and looking for a meaningful escape—even if it’s into the past. For the first time since starting The Core, some mornings felt impossible, and I genuinely struggled to write.
So here’s an honest question: Would a weekly version of The Core feel more meaningful to you than this daily dive into the noise? As always, your opinion matters most. Take a second to vote in the quick poll below, or just hit reply. After all, The Core belongs to all of us now—and we’ll shape its future together.
What’s Next?
Our first anniversary is approaching, and my stubborn perfectionism still drives me to do my best. But I won’t pretend it’s easy—as a single dad who left behind a thriving career, comfort, and stability to chase a dream, I’m constantly balancing responsibilities, finances, and my well-being. The Core currently isn’t making money—it’s burning it. Keeping this beautiful thing alive is challenging, to say the least.
Still, exciting changes are coming. Maybe the beloved “Weekend Edition” will return, we’ll figure out more ways to support the newsletter, and we might even move back to our original digital home (taking a short break if we do).
Please remember to adjust your inbox settings, add us to your contacts, or simply hit reply occasionally. It helps more than you know.
July reminded me that honest reflections and pauses often bring the greatest clarity. Thank you, sincerely, for reading, staying subscribed, supporting, and being part of this growing family.
Here’s to a meaningful August.
We’ll figure it out together.
See you soon,
Fatih Taskiran
