I’ve got good news for women everywhere: The FDA has approved the first-ever at-home cervical cancer screening devices. Teal Health’s new “Teal Wand” allows women to gather their samples privately and conveniently—no awkward stirrups, uncomfortable metal speculums, or in-person appointments.
Users mail their samples to a lab, where they’re tested for HPV, which causes almost all cervical cancers. Studies have shown that at-home tests are just as accurate as traditional tests. It’s not only a leap forward in comfort, but also in accessibility and equity for women, since around 25% of women in the U.S. don’t get cervical cancer screenings.
In Context: Trump signed an executive order to slash drug prices by 50%.
